Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming education, offering powerful new tools to support assessment practices in the classroom. In this interactive session, Aaron Baughman will guide participants through the evolving landscape of AI in education with a specific focus on formative and summative assessment. Participants will explore how AI can enhance assessment design, provide timely (immediate) and personalized feedback, analyze student performance data, and support learners as active partners in their own growth in ways you never thought possible.

Rooted in the foundational principles of assessment literacy, this session will highlight both opportunities and guardrails—addressing ethical considerations, issues of equity, and the role of professional judgment in an AI-assisted environment. Real classroom examples of AI-supported assessment, offering practical strategies and tools teachers can begin using right away, will also be showcased.

Guiding Questions:

  • Can AI actually help us bring more authenticity to performance tasks?
  • What might it look like if students were not just test-takers, but co-designers of their own assessment journey, supported by AI?
  • Is it possible that using AI ethically in assessment is less about the tool—and more about the teacher behind it?
  • What role should educators play in shaping the future of AI in assessment—before someone else defines it for us?

Registration for the full series is $100 for ALI Alumni and $130 for all others. Registration for an individual session is $45 for ALI Alumni and $60 for all others. 

Presenter: Aaron Baughman—Michigan Virtual

Aaron Baughman is the AI Strategist for Michigan Virtual, where he leads the integration of artificial intelligence in K-12 education, focusing on personalized learning, operational efficiency, and teacher support. With over 25 years of experience, Aaron has worked extensively with school districts across Michigan, guiding them through the complexities of AI adoption. His leadership in AI strategy has helped districts enhance student outcomes, reduce administrative burdens, and provide equitable access to cutting-edge technologies. Previously, Aaron served as the Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services for Northville Public Schools, where he spearheaded AI initiatives and developed comprehensive training programs for educators. He has presented at major national conferences, including Michigan ASCD and MASB, and works as a consultant for districts seeking to implement AI tools. Aaron is deeply committed to leveraging technology to bridge educational gaps and empower educators, ensuring that AI remains a tool for equity and student success. His expertise spans AI strategy, policy development, and leadership training, making him a trusted advocate for the responsible use of AI in education.
